Before winning over fans and the judges on Season 11 of The Voice, Michael spent nearly two decades developing his signature jazzy vintage sound. Born and raised in San Diego, Michael began singing just after he learned to walk. By the time he was in high school, Michael was a virtuoso piano player, and his band was playing at various hot spots around the city. When the group disbanded, Michael struck out on his own, developing his signature style as a frequent headliner at high end restaurants and piano bars across Southern California.
Michael joined the Voice as part of Alicia Keys’ team, where he won a memorial battle round that left all four judges on their feet. After his increased exposure from the Voice, Michael was hired by one of Southern California’s largest churches where he led thousands of congregants in worship every week. As part of his job, Michael traveled coast to coast as a featured vocalist, on one occasion performing at the legendary Carnegie Hall. Michael earned a Music Education degree from San Diego State University. He is happily married to his college sweetheart and is the father of two adorable boys—his biggest fans.
